Stock BMW B58 downpipe can easily handle a moderate tune, but if you plan on gaining more power from your engine remap, less restrictive pipes are going to be necessary. Again, as with the intercooler upgrade, all performance BMW parts (especially engine retrofits) require additional tuning to unlock the full potential of new, more efficient parts.I think it sounds nice with just a downpipe. A full exhaust is a different beast altogether. For power, if you don't plan on tuning then don't waste your time with a downpipe. You're not going to notice much aside from throttle response and a deeper note/louder burbles. If you were going to tune then I would say a downpipe is 100% worth it.Downpipe is the single biggest hardware mod for the B58. HPFP being second for the 1st gen BMW engines. The TU HPFP are better. The tune obviously makes a big difference, and octane in the fuel is a large factor as well.
